Experts from the international organization ASTM International have studied the relationship between people fainting during a flight and the pressure and temperature in the cabin. It turned out that high temperature and pressure in the cabin increase the risk of hypoxia (low oxygen content in the body) in flying. "There's a good reason to freeze you to the bone. And not just to thank the crew for the hot meal. It's simple: if it gets too hot, passengers may faint. Research has shown that it is easier to lose consciousness during a flight due to hypoxia. Fainting happens when the body does not receive enough oxygen, high air temperature and pressure in the cabin only worsen the condition," experts explain. It is noted that cases of fainting due to hypoxia are not uncommon on flights. Unfortunately, this can lead to disaster. So, in 2005, on a flight from Larnaca, Cyprus, to Athens, Greece, the pressure in the cabin of a Boeing 737 disappeared, which caused hypoxia in passengers and crew members. The plane switched to autopilot before crashing. In order to reduce the number of such incidents, airlines decided to keep the temperature in the aircraft cabins low to ensure safety. Therefore, passengers who get cold during the flight are advised to ask for a blanket from the flight attendants or wear warm clothes.
