The Museum of Kazakhstan’s Railways is a modern cultural and educational space in Astana dedicated to the history, development and future of Kazakhstan’s railway industry. The museum is located on the grounds of the Nūrly Zhol railway station complex and occupies an area of 3,200 square metres. Its exhibition combines historical heritage, modern technologies and authentic examples of railway equipment.

The museum’s exhibition is divided into four thematic halls: “Turksib and Mukhamеджan Tynyshpayev”, “Evolution of Locomotives”, “Professions and Innovations” and “History of the Railways of Kazakhstan”. Each hall tells the story of a particular stage in the formation and development of the railway industry — from the first railway lines and the people who stood at the origins of their creation to modern technologies and professions.

One of the museum’s distinctive features is the combination of a traditional museum exhibition with interactive technologies. The museum presents more than 250 historical exhibits, interactive panels, multimedia screens, AR and VR technologies, and simulators. This allows visitors not only to learn about the history of the railways but also to interact with the exhibits.

One of the museum’s main highlights is its collection of authentic locomotives and large-scale examples of railway equipment. Some of them are open for visitors to explore from the inside. Guests can enter locomotive cabs and learn more about the work of drivers and assistant drivers. This format allows visitors to see railway equipment not simply as museum exhibits, but also to experience what it is like to be part of the railway world.

Special attention is paid to railway professions and engineering specialities. The exhibition introduces visitors to the people, technologies and professions that keep the railway system running. This makes the museum interesting not only for history and technology enthusiasts, but also for schoolchildren, students and families with children. The museum hosts guided tours, lectures, educational programmes and career guidance events.

The exhibition is complemented by a children’s play area and an atmospheric dining carriage that can be used for cultural events, themed meetings, photo and video shoots.

The museum is conveniently located in the capital, on the grounds of the Nūrly Zhol railway station complex, at 8 Mukhamеджan Tynyshbayuly Street. Its location makes the museum convenient to visit independently or as part of tourist, school or family groups.

The Museum of Kazakhstan’s Railways is a place where railway history becomes interactive, while learning about professions and technologies turns into a real journey into the world of railway transport.
