Why it is impossible to go to the Bogdanovich glacier near Almaty, told in the national Park

04 March 2022

The Ile-Alatau National Park will take measures to ban hiking on the Bogdanovich Glacier near Almaty. This was stated in the press service of the organization.

As the National Park commented, the natural attraction is included in the so-called zone of ecological stabilization. Economic and recreational activities are prohibited in this place, with some exceptions, which include eco-tourism.

“Trips to the Bogdanovich glacier are possible only within the framework of regulated tourism, on the basis of an agreement concluded between the Ile-Alatau GNPP and a tourist company with the mandatory involvement of a guide, a guide, a tour guide,” the press service of the National Park reported, responding to a request Tengritravel.kz .
In addition, the department explained that finding unorganized tourists on the Bogdanovich glacier without supporting documents on payment for the use of a specially protected natural area is an administrative offense.

“On the territory of an environmental institution, depending on the type of protected areas and the established legal regime of protection, it is prohibited: being in a protected area without a supporting document on payment for the use of protected areas; other activities that violate the natural development and conservation of objects of the state nature reserve fund and natural complexes,” the response to the request says.

Mass visits of tourists, which are now observed on the Bogdanovich glacier, were called unorganized in the national Park, taking place without taking into account the recreational load. Tourists, according to representatives of the organization, get to the glacier from the territory of the RKGP “Medeu” and the resort “Shymkent”, there is no checkpoint on the road.

“At the moment, due to the threat of emergencies on the Bogdanovich Glacier, the National Park, using the available administrative capabilities, has taken measures to introduce prohibitive measures to visit the specified glacier and the Oktyabrskaya Cave,” the national Park comments.

At the same time, the department explained that in accordance with Article 380 of the Administrative Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, inspectors of the National Park protect natural complexes and, if violations are detected, are obliged to bring a person to administrative responsibility.

“It is not possible to track every tourist visiting the GLK “Shymkent”. State forest inspectors have appropriate detours, the total area of which reaches several thousand hectares.

The management of the Ile-Alatau GNPP and the Medeu branch is taking measures to resolve this issue with the involvement of volunteers and other activists, as well as the installation of warning notices,” the message says.

Earlier, tourists complained about unknown persons collecting money from visitors for the entrance to the Oktyabrskaya Cave on the Bogdanovich Glacier in the Left Talgar gorge. The Medeu branch of the Ile-Alatau National Park commented that the activities of these persons are illegal, since they were on the territory of the National Park. As for the Bogdanovich Glacier, the National Park explained that a protected protection regime has been established in this zone with the prohibition of economic and recreational activities.
