20 airlines will start implementing the covid-passport system in March

12 February 2021

About 20 airlines plan to introduce covid-passports (Travel Pass) in March 2021. Promoted by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the idea of covid passports will allow you to safely store and share records of the vaccine and tests for COVID-19 that passengers need for international travel, reports Tengritravel.kz with a link to FlightGlobal.

Among the airlines that have confirmed that they will use the Travel Pass app are Emirates, Etihad, British Airways, American Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Lufthansa and other major carriers. The IATA is confident that the application will contribute to the safe opening of borders, and are negotiating with another 30-40 carriers.

“Our priority is to return safe international air travel. We can show other governments that it is safe to travel, ” said Alan Hayden, head of the security department.

According to the publication, IATA offers airlines to include Travel Pass in their client applications. This app will contain information about what tests, vaccines, and other measures passengers may need before traveling. Users will be able to attach documents about their health status and transmit information to airline and immigration officials. It is noted that IATA will not have access to personal data of passengers.

Qatar Airways ‘ Vice President of Ground Services, Brad Moore, said the Travel Pass product is easy to use. In turn, Vice president of Singapore Airlines Hao Yu Dai said that an internationally recognized “digital solution”is needed.

Recall that the idea of covid-passports in August 2020 was proposed by a member of the Executive Council of Hong Kong, Bernard Chan, in order to resume the field of travel. IATA considers covid passports to be the best alternative to quarantine. However, the EU countries have not yet come to a consensus on this issue. At the same time, flights in the UK have already begun to introduce an “anti-slip” passport (Common Pass), which allows you to travel around the world without a 14-day quarantine.
