5 types of extreme recreation in Kazakhstan

13 October 2020

Often, each of us has an item on our wish list about doing something that goes beyond the boundaries of our usual lifestyle: skydiving, rafting on a stormy river, skiing or snowboarding. All this applies to extreme types of recreation. And in order to feel this very surge of adrenaline, you do not have to go to other countries and take a test for coronavirus.

Extreme sports involve a certain risk. Therefore, we note that all the leisure activities listed below require hard training or working in tandem with an experienced instructor. There is no need to undertake any independence at the initial stage.
Alpine skiing and snowboarding

In winter, all records are broken by the passion for mountain skiing and snowboarding. Today, the ski service is much better and more diverse than ten years ago. Almost everywhere there are slopes for both beginners and professionals. And the ski complexes themselves have become much larger. The leading position in terms of service quality is occupied by the Almaty region, but the ski complexes of the East Kazakhstan region benefit from climatic conditions: here on the slopes the snow lies much longer (from mid-November to mid-April), thereby delighting all fans of this type of extreme recreation.

Snowboarding mainly attracts young people, children who are ready to learn, active and fearless. Today in our country there is an opportunity to learn not just to ski and snowboard, but also to take professional training courses for instructors in Alpine skiing and snowboarding. In particular, such courses operate in East Kazakhstan region on the basis of the Altai Alps ski complex, where teachers are members of the National League of instructors (NLI) of Russia.

In the warm season, downhill skiing can be replaced with water skiing. Water skiing is currently actively practiced in the Kapchagai reservoir, Alakol, and the Caspian sea.

Diving

It would seem that where in Kazakhstan-the country of the great steppe-to take a large number of divers? You will be surprised, but in the warm season this is the most popular type of extreme recreation for Kazakhstanis. Of course, the underwater world of our reservoirs is not as colorful as, for example, in the Maldives or the Red sea, but we also have something to see. Moreover, not only the beauty itself attracts divers, forcing them to dive again and again to tens of meters of water column. Here we are talking about overcoming your fears, training your body, managing your breathing. Aerobatics diver-dive to a depth of holding your breath, without an oxygen tank. The duration of breath retention for a normal person is no more than a minute. But, as you know, our possibilities are almost limitless, if you train hard, you can achieve amazing results.

But even in order to perform the simplest dives at the initial stage, you will have to pass academic training, training either in a limited water space (pool) or in open water. And only after receiving an international certificate, you will be allowed to self-dive. There are quite a lot of dive clubs in Kazakhstan. The largest of them are located in Almaty and Ust-Kamenogorsk. In Almaty, training in closed water takes place mainly in the “Dynamo” pool, diving in open water – in the Kapchagai reservoir.

The base of the Ust-Kamenogorsk diving center is located in a picturesque place of the East Kazakhstan region-on the Sibinsky lakes, 70 kilometers from the city. Here training is only in open water.

The best places for diving in Kazakhstan, according to the divers themselves, are Balkhash, Kaspiy, Alakol, Kolsay and Sibinsky lakes.

Rafting

If you don’t feel very comfortable under the water, you can experience adrenaline over the water. Rafting is a fascinating descent along a mountain river by canoe or special rafts. This is the case when you can avoid long training sessions, and arrange a weekend tour with experienced instructors for yourself and your loved ones. Rafting on the rivers of Almaty can provide you, for example, the rafting Federation of Kazakhstan. The Federation team has been conducting rafting on the Turgen, Chilik, Ili and other rivers for more than 10 years.

Anyone can take part in events organized by the Federation or sign up for training, regardless of age and experience.

In addition to the Almaty region, rafting is very popular in East Kazakhstan region. For lovers of active recreation, the East Kazakhstan region rafting Federation provides one-day tours along the rivers: Ulba, Gornaya Ulbinka, Sergikha, gromotukha. For fans of extreme sports and water tourism – drive tours on the rivers UBA, Turgusun, calir.
