Almaty resident Shukhrat Imamniyazov witnessed a rare solar halo during a hike in the mountains. He managed not only to catch the sun at its zenith, but also to take a picture against its background.
According to Shukhrat Imamniyazov, he took pictures during his ascent to Bukreev Peak (one of the peaks of the Trans-Ili Alatau). The hike started at eight in the morning.
“I climbed through the Forest pass and went towards Bukreev. At the foot, one kilometer before the peak, I noticed such an effect, as if a halo had formed over my head,” the Dalmatian shares.
According to him, the effect lasted until about two o’clock in the afternoon, after which the sky became completely clear.
A lover of mountain hiking has already observed this phenomenon three times, and also noticed a similar effect with the moon. However, it was the first time they managed to shoot it on camera.
A halo appears in the sky when several factors are combined. Most often it is observed in frosty weather in conditions of high humidity. At the same time, there is a large number of ice crystals in the air. Passing through them, sunlight is refracted in a special way, forming an arc around the sun. The lunar halo is practically no different from the halo that appeared during the daytime around the sun. The nature of its appearance is exactly the same.
