How much to tip? A question that many tourists ask when coming to new places. On average, in many countries it is customary to give 10-15 percent of the total bill, but still the culture of payment for services is different everywhere. In this article we will tell you where, how and to what extent tourists pay tips.
The topic of tips was the subject of a separate discussion at the general assembly of the Association of Investors in the field of tourism, Restaurants and Gastronomic Enterprises (TURYID). According to the assembly, on average, tourists in Turkey tip the “world average” rate of 10 percent, and the annual amount of tips is about 12 billion Turkish lira (about 392 billion tenge). It is noted that the association intends to bring this additional income out of the shadows. So, according to Touroprom, TURYID requested to allow payment of tips by credit card and passed this request to the Ministry of Finance of Turkey.
In addition, experts presented the practice of tipping in different countries. Despite the fact that this is often a voluntary matter, the average worldwide tip amount is 10-15 percent of the bill amount. So, in some countries, the amount of tips is automatically added to the tourist’s account, and, for example, in Japan they are categorically not accepted.
