Surely many air passengers noticed small holes at the bottom of the airplane window. But what are these tiny holes for and isn’t their presence dangerous? Curious tourists asked this question. The aviation expert told about what function they carry, information with reference to the Travel Industry.
According to the expert, there is no reason to panic. Miniature holes in the glass are part of a well-thought-out system. For example, they allow moisture to escape from the aircraft, preventing the formation of fog on the window. And, as explained by aviation expert Mark Vanhenacker, this design helps the aircraft to control the changing air pressure outside.
“Each window consists of three different acrylic layers, and only the middle one contains a vent. A small gap helps to regulate the high-pressure atmosphere in the aircraft, which makes the flight much more comfortable for passengers.
The two exterior cabin windows are designed to contain this pressure difference between the cabin and the sky. Both the middle and outer glass are strong enough to withstand the difference by themselves, but under normal conditions, this pressure is withstood by the outer glass due to the ventilation hole in the middle glass,” the expert said.
Earlier, scientists announced the reason for the cold on board the aircraft. So, they revealed a pattern linking the temperature on board with the state of the human body. It turned out that high temperature and pressure in the cabin increase the risk of hypoxia (low oxygen content in the body) in flying.
