National Geographic has selected the 25 best destinations around the world in five categories: nature, adventure, culture, sustainability and family. The criteria for choosing places to travel were the presence of national parks, the presence of wildlife, space for active recreation and eco-friendly travel, as well as the possibility of visiting at any age.
“In many ways, the pandemic has provided travelers and communities around the world with an opportunity to reflect and rethink how we explore the world. In the list, Nat Geo has selected places that are different from the usual ones, which are new and inspire when visiting them to look at the world differently,” said George Stone, executive editor of National Geographic Travel.
So, in the category “Nature”, Lake Baikal was noted – the “Sacred Sea of Russia”, the volume of which is almost a quarter of the fresh water reserves on our planet. According to the editorial board of Nat Geo, visitors can help protect the lake and the surrounding nature from environmental disaster due to mass pollution.

And in the category of family trips, National Geographic recommends the southwest coast of Turkey – the Mediterranean destination, which in ancient times was called Lycia. The editors call sailing the best option to explore Lycia and its secluded coves. It also offers family types of tourist leisure in the form of making pomegranate syrup, baking local muffins or harvesting.
