High-speed train will be launched to Alakol

03 March 2022

JSC NC “Kazakhstan Temir Zholy” has signed a memorandum with the Akimat of Almaty region, according to which 11 routes will run from Almaty to Alakol, including the high-speed train “Talgo” will be launched.

According to the press service of the akim of Almaty region, despite the pandemic, from 2019 to 2021, passenger traffic to the resort area of Alakol increased by 264 percent.
This year it is planned to transport about 240 thousand passengers. 11 summer routes of last year (of which eight are Passenger Transportation JSC, three are private transportation) will be preserved. The total number of seats offered to passengers will exceed 340 thousand.

In addition, the high-speed train “Talgo” will be launched, which will run in this direction every other day.

It is also reported that due to complaints from passengers about the lack of air conditioners, hot water and other basic conditions, a kind of certification of cars of private carrier companies will be organized.

“Now every carrier will pay attention to improving the comfort of train cars. At the same time, taking into account the demand, the number of compartment-type cars will be increased. Through the efforts of KTZ, Akshi, Koktuma, Zhalanashkol stations have also been brought into line: passenger platforms have been lengthened, protective canopies have been installed,” the akimat said.

Recall that last year 11 routes also plied to Alakol, as well as planes flew. Passengers often complained that there were no seats (therefore, this year they will offer 340 thousand seats, when they plan to transfer only 240 thousand passengers). In this regard, in June last year, the number of trains and wagons available to passengers from Nur-Sultan and Almaty was increased. The shortage of tickets for Alakol was explained in JSC Passenger Transportation. And the transport prosecutor’s office told how ticket dealers operate.
